Run for Home – Run for Gawad Kalinga

The first time I ran in a marathon was last 2010 during Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Run for Life which benefited MCCI’s medical mission and the Dasig Kabataan Foundation. This year, another marathon is gonna be held in Cebu — the Globe Run4Home, one of the biggest and most awaited running events in the country with the many innovations it pioneered in Philippine marathon history.

For this event, Globe taps previous Run4Home beneficiary Gawad Kalinga to help raise funds for its housing development project for the Sendong victims in Iligan.

The marathon is on March 25, 2012 (Sunday) at the Cebu International Convention Center with routes passing through Cebu South Coastal Road, Plaza Independencia, Sergio Osmeña Boulevard, and Quirino Avenue, with the following registration fees per category (the most affordable registration rates ever in Globe Run4Home history, making the running event more accessible to the growing running community, especially in Cebu):

  • 21K – Php700
  • 15K – Php600
  • 10K – Php500
  • 5K – Php400
  • 3K – Php300

A portion of the runners’ registration fees will be donated to their beneficiary of choice to support their respective advocacies and programs. Since I’ve been a volunteer of Gawad Kalinga for almost a year now, I pledge to run for Gawad Kalinga, and I hope you will run for GK, too! :)

To register, you may visit www.run4home.race-registration-now.com and register there, or you may go to 1st Level, Paseo de Ciudad, Ayala Center, Cebu from February 1 to March 16 and fill up the registration form, then pay in cash for individual or group (group registrants [buy 4 and get 1 free] should run in the same category). Once the registration process has been completed, a runner’s kit will be given. This includes the following items:

  • Singlet (sizes will be subject to availability)
  • D-tag (RFID Timing Chip)
  • Race Bib Number
  • Finishers medal for 21K

For more information about the marathon (call time, prizes, map, guidelines, etc.), kindly view/download this PDF file: Globe Run4Home 2012. You may also send your concerns to the contact persons indicated in the poster above.

Please do join the Globe Run4Home 2012 and run for Gawad Kalinga to help provide sustainable shelter to those in need, especially victims of Tropical Storm Sendong. :)

Singson and Tabal Top Cebu Milo Marathon

More than 23000 runners took part in the Milo Marathon in Cebu

CEBU City — A chicharon vendor and a first timer ruled the men’s and women’s division of the sixth leg of the 34th Milo Marathon on Sunday which was participated in by a record more than 23,000 runners at the Cebu Sports Center here.

Adonis Singson took a break from his daily chores of selling chicharon by trying his skills into sports that surprised the big field of runners when he finished the premier 21-k run in 1:15:15, which was just enough to bring home the P10,000 top prize and earned a trip to the National Finals in Manila on Dec. 12.

The absence somehow of defending champion Mendel Lopez, who is currently in Manila taking a board examination, actually boosted Singson’s confidence to win the annual Cebu leg for the first time after just finishing 3rd last year and second in 2006 and 2007.

“When I learned that Mendel will not run, I made it sure that I will win this time by calculating my speed. This is really my time now,” said the 27-year-old Singson in Visaya.

His victory at least was a fitting consolation to his long time dream of making good in sports, which he was not able to fulfill in his early years due to financial hardships.

A close second behind Singson was Jobert Carolino, who timed 1:15:39, while Moh Sherwin Managil settled for third with 1:17:10. So far only Singson and Carolino made it to the national competition because organizers set a standard qualifying time of 1:15:00 to the nationwide provincial elimination races. Also joining in on the action on the 21K race was Nestle Chief Executive OfficerJohn Miller.

The 21-year-old Mary Joy Tabal, who saw action for the first time in the 21-k event, outraced defending titlist Madelyn Carter in the last kilometer to pocket the women’s category top purse of P10,000 by crossing the finish line with a time of 1:28:44. Carter,30, who had only 8 weeks preparation, settled for second with a clocking of 1:31:30, while Emily Rosas was a distant second with 1:52:56.

Thus Tabal, a fourth year commerce student at the Southwestern University and Carter were the only two who met the qualifying time of 1:35:00. They will join two-time national champion and Asian Games-bound Jhoann Banayag, who topped the Davao leg last week and Metro Manila leg winner Luisa Raterta in the finals.

“This is my first time to try the 21-k. I’ve been only in the 10-k. But I think I can still shine in the finals in Manila. I will just prepare myself hard,” said the pertite Tabal, who is actually a sprinter being the bronze medalist in the 400-meter dash during the 2010 CHED National Games in Manila.

Top officials of Milo led by Pat Goc-Ong, Nestle sports executive, expressed elation over the turnout of participants, which surpassed the 20,000 last year. Some running enthusiasts were even denied entry in the last few days of registration for fear of the safety of the runners.

Some 400 pair of shoes were also donated to the students of Tejeros Elementary School as part of the Milo Marathon sports advocacy which is aimed towards helping the youth fulfill their dreams of going into sports.

The regional elimination race will then move to Tagbilaran City on September 12 and Dumaguete City on September 19, while the Iloilo City leg will be on September 26. Naga City will have its turn on October 3, San Pablo City on October 10, Batangas City on October 17, Puerto Princesa on October 31, Tarlac City on November 7, Olongapo City on November 14, Butuan City on November 21 and Cagayan de Oro City on November 28.

Hapuhap Wellness Spa Experience

One can never miss the huge yellow signage to the right when taking V. Rama Avenue going to Guadalupe. Hapuhap Wellness Spa is located on the 3rd Floor of the LBR Building.

It’s the perfect place to rejuvenate all that energy after a hard day at work or school. Their packages vary depending on every clients’ relaxation needs, may it be a regular massage or body scrub or facial cleansing.

Eight (8) Cebu Bloggers Society Members were given the opportunity to experience the gentle touch of Hapuhap Wellness Spa last December 1, 2 and 5. Here’s what they have to say (you may click on their names to read more about their articles):

Their service was really nice too! Rooms were super neat, music and ambiance was very nice. the place really suits the SPA’s name- Hapuhap -meaning a gentle touch or rub on someone’s back to give comfort. It was really relaxing especially to my hands and back. — JIM

At first, I was really shy with the hapuhapists (masseur) and I was really about to laugh on the way how she did it, but then, it all went well. I still want more, more and more. I like the feeling that I was relaxed not just with the massage but also to their superb style, atmosphere and music at its lowest rate.
— AIKA

xavier shared that the hapuhap massage is a combo of shiatsu, swedish and thai. didn’t really feel the thai bit of it, which was good because i hate having to participate in the therapy. i just want to sleep during the whole session. i’m glad it made me! “lami” is such a perfect adjective.
— JAbbeRedONiON

Everything in the place was very relaxing — the gentle music, the aroma (I still smelled it though I had colds), and of course, the body massage itself. :) My therapist, Luna, was very accommodating despite my constant request for her to repeat her words at that time
. — MIKYU

Overall, the massage was satisfying. It was a pretty good one. The therapists were professional, at the same time, friendly and accommodating. And the place was calm. Being on a high floor probably contributed to that.

Antibacterial wipes for Iphone and other phones

I knew many of the Filipinos here in the Philippines watched the news in TV Patrol World in the past day regarding the skin disease we might get from using our mobile phones, but do we know what to do in order for our phone to be germ free?

Well, Wireless Wipes™ got a good news for us. They have created the first ever sanitizer design for mobile phones, PDAs, black berries, and even laptop screens. It is fast drying, thus preventing damage to phone screens and leave a tea-cucumber scents.

“We spent two years developing Wireless Wipes with our chemical formulators to create a highly absorbent alcohol based sanitizer that eliminates or dramatically reduces your exposure to potentially harmful germs.” said Scott Silverman, President of Wireless Wipes™

I bet this would help us in this problem, the wipes can be brought everywhere and anytime, for it comes in 10-count re-sealable pouches suitable in your pouches.
